Workshop Journal: Dave’s E36 M3 Evo Mapping
David’s E36 M3 Evo has been an ongoing project for some time, taking it from a standard engine to something far different – a 12.7:1 compression, 296-degree cammed beast. Besides the hours of blueprinting, trick machining and careful assembly, this engine features the following:
- JE Pistons 12.5:1, 87mm pistons
- SP Components con-rods
- ACL Race Big End Bearings
- ACL Race Main Bearings
- Schrick 296/296, 12.4mm lift camshafts
- Karbonius Race Airbox
- SCS Delta standalone ECU
- ARP Head Stud Kit
- Rebuilt and custom-restricted Vanos
- Hack Engineering Oil Cooler Thermostat Delete
- DKM MB clutch kit
- Fully dynamically balanced rotating assembly
- Cometic MLS head gasket
- VAC Motorsports Oil Pump Upgrade Kit
- VAC Motorsports Oil Filter Lid
- Radium Catch Can
The result, with some careful coaxing by Chipwizards, was 378bhp and 297lb ft – all with a monstrous powerband from 3500rpm onwards. There are few words that can describe how lairy this engine is!
