Rally Report: Moynes/Kerr at the Challenger Stages 2023
It’s a pleasure to have another report on the HE-powered Moynes/Kerr E36 tarmac rally car for all to enjoy, written by co-driver Jon Kerr:
‘A couple of weekends ago , the HE-supported S50B30-powered rally car once again was entered for a single venue stage rally event.
Freshly repaired after the incident at the last rally and a new driveshaft and hub fitted (after breaking one on the previous weeks’ test day!) the car was all ready to go.
The weather report gave a mixed bag for the day with occasional showers… we would have to see how that panned out.
‘We started off slowly, not really getting to grips with it until stage 3 where we started to get our rhythm. A couple of really good stages in the afternoon saw us get a 9th and an 8th overall stage result… which was superb considering there were a couple of big power Escorts and three R5 cars in front.
We managed to get ourselves up to 12th overall and 4th in class but stage 7 saw some heavy downpours and we were on very worn cut slicks. Stage 8 was the last one and we were going well with some inters on the front for a bit more grip, but they started to go off about a couple of miles from the end and sadly we understeered at speed and clipped some chicane furniture puncturing and shredding the new tyre, bending lower arm and steering putting us out of the rally with less than 2 miles to go. We learnt loads and the engine was awesome all day. We received lots of good comments about the car on how good it looks and goes!
We now have loads of jobs to do before our next event at Goodwood in December. If you want to see the car in action , come on down to watch as it’s free to enter!’
Bit of in-car video from stage six where we posted a top ten time (swearing included!):
The E36 is next out at the South Downs Stages, info can be found here – http://www.southdownsstages.co.uk/spectators.html
